9 bolt rear disc brakes
I have a 9 bolt rearend and disc brake calipers. The Question I have is Do you have to have the emergency brake equipment on the calipers for them to work properly? I rebuilt the calipers and they looked good but since they have to twist back in do they need the counter weight and spring to work. I tried to use front calipers since they use the same pads and mounting location but the piston bulge will not clear the bracket. Any help would be appreciated because then ten bolt has about 1" of play without the driveshaft moving.

IIRC, the e-brake was used to adjust the calipers.

On your '88, yes you need the e-brake stuff for the calipers to work and adjust right. Not an issue with '89 and up rear discs.
