installing a iroc rear end to a z-28

I'm installing an iroc rear end and I was wondering what all will I need to do to do this upgrade.

Also how much will it help my 1/8 times to go from 2.42 gear to a 3.73?

Right now I have 2.42 gear in mine with drum brakes.

What all will I need to do to the break system to get it working properly?

Welcome to TGO. There's a wealth of info on the site. Rear end swaps are a common topic, so you should be able to find all that you require. Thirdgen rears are a direct swap by the way. Do you mean 2.73's? Does the new rear end have drums or discs?

More info please..what do you have now, what are you going to, etc. You'll probably have a 2.73 peg leg drum rear but we need to be sure.

more info

Right now I have the stock z-28 rear end with drum brakes. I just bought an iroc 3.73 rear end with disc brakes. I got the whole assembly also got the master cylinder that went with that car. Is there anything else I will need and with the brake lines got right up to the new rear end or will in need to get different ends on the lines?? How much of a performance difference will it make for my car?

Thanks
Shawn

Hi Shawn...what year is the Iroc rear? Also, we need more info on your car, like what year is it. Odds are you'll be able to keep the master you have.

Nope, keep your master cylinder as is, all cars both disc and drum used the same one from '90 on up so keep your drum master. It's also the right one you'll need should you ever upgrade the fronts to a dual piston caliper: 1LE, C4, C5, etc.

You may need a disc prop valve but I'd give the new brakes a try first to see how they work. Also, if you haven't thought of it yet, rebuild the '88 rear calipers or they won't work at all, it's likely they're frozen up after non use coupled with non use of a poorly designed e-brake built into the caliper.

Let us know if you have any more questions.
