9 bolt disc barake conversion in drum brake car questions

9 bolt disc barake conversion in drum brake car questions

i have a 87 camaro that as orignially a v6 10 bolt drum brake rear. i just bought a 9 bolt posi with disc brakes. can i put the drum brake set up from my 10 bolt on it or do i have to set up my car with the discs and if i set my car up with discs what else do i have to do for the conversion. its an 88 9 bolt

You cannot use the drums on the 9 bolt. Hopefully, you have the calipers too?

There are many posts related to this swap.

You will need the correct porportioning valve for proper front / rear braking bias. Check with your GM parts dealer to see if the master cylinder is compatible with the year of 9 bolt rear end that you have. Also, you'll probably need new e-brake cables.

could i get an adjustable porpotioning valve like from jegs and bypass the stock porpotioning valve

Axle/Gears: 3.73 ten bolt, powertrax locker
yeah, you can bypass the stock one and use the jeg's unit. i replaced my worn 9 bolt posi disc with a 3.73 10 bolt locker drum, and i didn't bother to change the valve. no complaints, pedal feels fine and stops good and straight.
