WS6 suspension- why no rear disc brakes on mine?

My car is WS6 optinioned, its a 1991 Firebird Trans-Am... I'm not mistaken and know for a fact it is supposed to have the option. It has the black GTA style rims with WS6 inserts in the center cap, and furthermore the RPO code lists "WS6". One thing baffles me, don't the WS6's have disc brakes all around? My rear has drum brakes. I could be wrong about thinking WS6 includes four disc brakes, but I'm pretty sure... I wonder if theres a possibility that it was swapped out sometime before I bought the car.

Two questions I pose:
1.) What EXACTLY does the WS6 option add on the car?
2.) Is it possible to have the WS6 option with rear drum brakes from the factory?

I'm clueless and it's baffled me long enough.

i believe you got a 36mm front swaybar, a 24mm rear swaybar, and if im not mistaken different coils, struts and shocks.

i have ws6 on my gta and it has rear disc.

Thats really weird though, I always associated WS6 with four disc brakes... I checked my RPO codes, J42: "Brake System, Power, Front Disk, Rear Drum, Aluminum". Ya learn something new every day... Meh.

1990/ 1991 GM had a supplier shortage of disc brake parts and a number of cars were assemblied witth drum brake with a credit issued for the J65 rears being deleted. This should answer your question.

Rear discs were more often than not an option separate from the WS6 package. 91 was one of those years. Going to stick my neck out a little, the information I have on 91 TA isnt what I was hoping for. It should have:

36mm front sway bar
23mm rear sway bar
12.7:1 quick ratio steering
245/50ZR16 tires on 16x8 diamond spoke wheels
Gas-pressurized shocks
Special springs and bushings

My 91 Formula is a WS6 car too and it has rear drums, that mistake will be fixed shortly though.

I appreciate everyone's info on this, I had no idea... And to think I thought I knew my firebirds pretty well That kind of sucks about the rear disc brakes, wish I had em. I might consider putting rear disc brakes on the car, I've been thinking about it a lot lately. Who knows. Thanks everyone
