1LE master on standard brakes

I need to replace my brake master cylinder. Is there any benefit/drawback to putting the 1LE spec master on my car if i still have the single piston calipers?

Re: 1LE master on standard brakes

Since your car is an '88 install the correct disc brake master for your brakes. A different master was used on 1LE cars and the '89-92 cars so unless you also swap to 1LE spec PBR rear discs, use a correct disc master for your '88 with the Moraine rear calipers.

Now, if you have rear drums it wont' matter as drum masters are the same ones as 1LEs.

Re: 1LE master on standard brakes

well what would happen if i used it? would there be too much hydraulic pressure on the brakes?

EDIT: i've noticed that 1992 cars came from the factory with 1LE spec master whether they had 1LE brakes or not.

Re: 1LE master on standard brakes

Yes this is a good question Ed. I bought all my entire brake system from you except for a new Master Cylinder for my factory 88 IROC. The new system is barely better than the shot system I originally had. I even made several attempts to phone you back and sent a few emails but never heard back from you.
I'm assuming that I need to to the Wilwood brake bias install. Others are mentioning using the 1999 M/C as an 'upgrade'. Could you give us a few more deeper insights than the above post???? It would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Nitro Nicky

P.S.; the Spohn subframe connectors you recommended did make a heck of a difference!!!

Re: 1LE master on standard brakes

My apologies on not getting to you promptly, I still have over 100 PMs to look at. Definitely go with a '90 or newer master cylinder and look into the adjustable prop valve to set your bias to where you like it. I really don't know the specifics of the differences regarding measurements but I have the factory manuals and they tell me what goes where so I recommend using the most up to date parts that fit the need and are correct.

Please feel free to call me if you want to talk further. I'm on nights until the end of the month but I can be reached after 2PM Eastern.

Re: 1LE master on standard brakes

You can use any master cylinder you like, the only difference will be in pedal feel.
