parking brake wont work

When I put the parking brake on, the car will not stop rolling. I have to put it in gear so it will stop rolling. What could be cause this to happen?

A worn out ebrake cable would be the cause of this, or if it's fairly new it may be stretched and need re-adjustment.

Did you just change pads or shoes? If so you may need to adjust,if not like skinwalker said a worn out cable.
