Rear disc install question

So i was going through a PNP yard last week looking for interoir parts I broke, and I came across a 82 trans am, with the disc brake rear backing plates still on

I snatched both plates up but no calipers.

What are my options as far as choosing a stock caliper, certain years better then others?

This is a upgrade for me considering I dont have rear brakes at the moment

All 82-88 rear discs were equipped with Delco-Moraine iron calipers which accomodated 10.5" rotors. Many on the board would say that they're worthless, at least in comparison with bigger brake upgrades, such as 89-92 PBR's and 11.7" rotors. I used the old style for awhile, and with the "repair kit" in place, I didn't think they were horrible.

To use the PBR I need a differenct backing plate right?

I see were your coming from on the upgrade comparsion. Whats this repair kit?

I think im going to just get some 10.5 rotors and matching calipers, new brake line and prop valve.

To use the PBR's, you'd require a new backing plate. There was a recall on the iron calipers, but I suggest that most remain calipers at this point incorporate the kit. I assume you're sticking these on a disc brake rear end of some sort. If not, you'll have problems with axel flanges.
