Simple brake question

I have a 89 9 bolt disc is that 1LE brakes or PBR i'm confused, or is it the same?

Second Question. Is there any more simpler front brake setup than the cutting of the hub for the C4 or the $900 Baer Brakes. I dont want to go super cheap but would like to go decently un-expensive and relatively easy. With out cutting my spindles or drilling new holes on them. Was there any factory brake setup like a truck or something that was bigger than our 10" rotors.

Any Option greatly appreciated.

'89 and up rear discs = PBRs = 1LEs, they're the same.

The thing to remember is that our cars don't have upper control arms and very few cars use this design. Where you can swap spindles on B and G bodies and S10s, you can't on our cars so we have to cut and modify as needed, to get larger brakes this is what we have to do.

The modification is relatively simple. Spohn sells a CD (from AndyZ28) detailing the procedure.

Re: Simple brake question

lots of help thanks. I want to upgrade the front it seems cheap. But the pictures arent very descriptive. I need a step by step procedure. Is this something i can do in the back yard or does it seem to be easier if i can get into a garage. We have a drill press at work i could use but does the cutting have to be exact or just to get most of the excess metal from poking the new calipers.

Re: Simple brake question

I did the mod in my garage. Cutting the ears off the spindle requires a hack saw--at least that's what I used. Drilling and tapping two dust shield bolt holes wasn't difficult either. Here's the link for more info:

Re: Simple brake question

so that summit kit i guess is factory size. I was wanting to go with a bigger rotor but i guess an inch isn't much of a difference. i just want to show them off when i put my new wheels on. They are 18" KMC 820SS black. I guess im silly. You guys like to show yours off dont you. I mean theres not much performance in a rotor that is slightly bigger now if i threw the 13' rotor thats a different story. how many of you have done it. I mean on the car and not taking them off the car. Is it easy that way or harder

Re: Simple brake question

You can mod the spindle on car, and why not? Bigger brakes can't be a bad thing. Nothing worse, IMO, than dinky-butt rotors and sissy calipers peeking through a massive wheel.
