Re: e brake on 1le brakes

won't start another parking brake thread so....

I too have a '86 Z28 and swapped in everything from a '92 b4c/1le car.
This included rear end, parking brake cables and parking brake lever.
I have about an inch of slack between the equalizer and the rear cables. I'm stumped. I'm pretty sure the parking brake worked fine when I removed it from the donor '92. Does everything bolt to the same locations for all years? As in, are the clips where the cable snaps into place at the same location?

I've not tried to adjust the free travel as I'm not sure it will take a full 1". Correct me if I'm wrong

Re: e brake on 1le brakes

Now that I've read your post fully, did you also replace your '86 parking brake cable along with the handle? The cables and handle are different. One solution is to reinstall your '86 parts and swap the e-brake cables over to the early style cables and away from the second design/late style '92 cables, this should clear it up. The free travel won't take up the 1" or so you have now.

Re: e brake on 1le brakes

Thanks Ed,
I did swap everything over from the '92... It's essentially just an '86 shell and '86 dash with '92 everthing else. I started thinking that maybe I accidently put back on the 86 cables, but that's just not possible since the rear end that came out was drum and the 92 is disc.

As a temporary fix, I put on two alum. crimps at the ends of the cables. It's a road race car and I've heard enough stories and videos of brake failure on track that I decided to keep my e-brake in as a 'just in case'. Even if it only slows me down a few mph, that's a few mph softer of a hit.

Good idea about swapping back in the '86 handle and getting the first design cables. That'll be on my to do list after I get back from the races this weekend. Thanks again!
