Anti-lock Brakes?

I am going to swap out parts from a 1994 Camaro and noticed it had this big thing where the brake lines come together after the master cylinder, then i was told that this car came with abs. now to my question...
How would i be able to put antilock brakes onb my car? I am going to swap out the rear end which i heard would be a direct fit, originally i was going to use it just to put disc brakes on the back as opposed to converting my stock ones, now i want to put ABS on it...what would i have to buy ort what could i use from the car, i still have the complete 94 camaro that i am using for parts too......
thanks for the info!

Re: Anti-lock Brakes?

Short answer is no. Do a search and you will find out why. Biggest problem is programming the computer for the brake size and weight, and balance, mounting the necessary sensors to the front hubs, and getting a reluctor ring to fit.

Re: Anti-lock Brakes?

ell i was planning to put the entire brake system from it on my car, rotors, calipers, even the lines if i could have used the abs....
But what i wanted to know is IF it is possible, not if its hard or easy... because like i said, i am gonna use the brakes from that car and everything that comes with it...and dont they make seperate controllers for the abs? i heard about those, but never seen them...
but like i said, IS IT POSSIBLE?
thansk for the info.

Re: Anti-lock Brakes?

Yes it's possible. Hell, with a 4thgen pump/module setup it'd be rather easy. They're close enough in weight and brake bias. Apply power to the module, plumb the lines and mount reluctor rings. From what I remember the 4thgens use a 47 tooth ring mounted inside the bearing assembly. So you have to take a ring from a later s10 or astro van or something to get measurments for ID, OD and have one cut for the proper number of teeth. Then just use the 4thgen stock rear ones.

I have a pump/module in the garage but it's hard to tackle something like that when this is my DD.

Re: Anti-lock Brakes?

Cool. But another thing, how would i controll them? would anyone happen to male an aftermarket controller for the abs brakes, since i am not considering using the lt1 engine or computer? or does that big black thing connected to where the brake tines meet up before they go under the car control the brakes on its own? and i have EVERYTHING from the brakes, so i figured it would be possible, would the brake lines run the same way under the 4th gens as under the 3rd gens? or would i have to get some made?
Thanks for the info.

Re: Anti-lock Brakes?

I doubt the lines would run the same. Even if they were close it'd look nicer to run new lines to all four wheels. The engine computer doesn't control the ABS in 4thgens from what I recall. The module attached to the ABS pump does everything, just need to supply power and sensor inputs.
