rear abutment bracket replacement

I slid sideways into a curb and broke a bunch of parts, and now I am trying to get things put back together. Searching came up empty on my proiblem so here it is. First I have calipers from a 93-97. I twisted the abutment bracket and snapped the guide pin. I am having one hell of a time getting the abutment bracket off of the caliper. It appears that I need to get the emergency brake spring off in order to seperate the two parts. What is the trick to removing the spring? If I buy a new caliper will it have the bracket attached? I need to get my car back together soon, HELP.

Re: rear abutment bracket replacement

You must get the spring out to get the lower bracket bolt off or loose. Use a standard screwdriver and pry the spring up off the e-brake lever through the cable mounting bracket and remove it. To reinstall it, I use a pair of pliers on the spring and slowly move it back where it needs to be. It's not easy just take your time.
