Is 137 ft.lbs correct for the carrier to adapter bolts?

Re: 1LE Torque Specs

According to my '91 GM manual that is correct. 137 ft-lbs for the bracket to caliper carrier bolts, 89 ft-lbs for the mounting bracket adaptor to spindle bolts.

This is the procedure according to the factory service manual in section 5B2-front pad-guided disc brake caliper assembly-

-Coat threads of mounting bolts (18) with thread adhesive.

-Tighten two bracket mounting bolts (18) to 137 ft-lbs.

-Recheck torque on both bolts (18) immediately.

-Allow adhesive on bracket bolts (18) to cure for two hours before moving vehicle.

Excellent, Racer! I very much appreciate your effort.

You can't be too far from Lawrence. Perhaps we'll meet up one day (I nearly attended a show in Leavenworth today, but the rains moved in).

Re: 1LE Torque Specs

Hey, Racer,

One more question if you please. Is 70 ft. lbs the spec for the rear mounting bracket (17) to mounting plate (38) for 89-92 rear discs? I only have a page from the manual, unfortunately, the one that begins the PARKING BRAKE FREE-TRAVEL ADJUSTMENT.

Re: 1LE Torque Specs

That's correct, 70 ft.lbs, and it has the same procedure as the rears-thread lock, re-torque, wait two hours. It also says to use new bolts and washers. I'm in the middle of swapping PBR's onto my 9 bolt right now and went to the dealership and bought the bolts-they had them in stock, and they were only a dollar apiece.

Do you need me to post the parking brake free travel adjustment?

I have a suspicion that the washers are supposed to go between the caliper carrier and the axle bracket-when I went to bolt it all up the carrier hit the outside face of the rotor so bad it kept the rotor from sitting flat on the axle. It looks like it will take more than the thickest of the axle shims to get everything lined up. The parts guy at the dealership didn't have a part number for the washers, but he was also less than helpful. When I found this last night I stepped away from it in frustration then came here and did some searches to try to figure out what was going on. (your previous posts were the most helpful) I found that there is more than one design of axle bracket and some have a washer welded to them in that spot-mine are stamped with a curved lip around the edge, and looked like they may have been installed with washers before (dual bolt pattern too). I'm going to get back to it this afternoon with "fresh eyes".

I'm an hour straight east of you-I'm sure there will be some kind of gearhead event in the area sometime when we can meet up. Hope those hippies aren't being to hard on you out there in hippyville!

I'm good there, I think. I'm a bit embarrassed to have lost/misplaced the specs (especially since I've done the fronts and the rear in the past). I'm going to reuse the bolts, no washers on mine.

Due to a leaky rear caliper, I'm in the process of throwing on new rotors, pads, etc. all the ways around. What the heck, it's only money. So far, I'm lovin Lawrence. Downtown mass is always an adventure.

Edit: You perhaps have seen my write-up on the swap. If not, a member also mentions using washers as shims:
