Re: Brake Pads Replacement help

front

jack up and support the car.

remove the wheel.
im assuming you have iron single piston calipers

there are 2 bolts with allen heads that hold the caliper to the spindle. Remove the two bolts, may be tight.

With them removed, the caliper will pull off the spindle/rotor.

Use a large C clamp to gently push the piston back into the caliper, they should move a little, dont go crazy.

Install new pads and bolt back onto the rotor, should be a tight fit.

Are you doing rear brakes or ust fronts? and if so what rear brakes do you have discs or drums.

Re: Brake Pads Replacement help

Try to find some synthetic brake lube to apply to areas of movement pins and caliper slides

Re: Brake Pads Replacement help

This is the third time ive replaced my pads on my car and ive noticed when im driving i can here them slapping around. So i Grabbed my manual and for the single piston disc front brakes im suppose to have springs, rention clip and stuff but the pads i bought dont have them, i looked at a lot of pads for the car and dont see no dog ear things, or the double rention clip.

Stock brakes for 88 camaro 5.0 Tbi
Single Piston Iron Calipers
using the lifetime warrenty duralast golds
Brake hardware kit "which contains the double retainer but the singles are welded on the pad..."

I also picked up the Earls Hyperfirm front brake line kit to replace the stock
20 year lines.

Why are my pads slapping around ? How come i cant find no brakes that match what the manual says I should have. Should i use these and try to rough up the area of contact between the inboard pad retainer and caliper ?
