Plain old boring aluminum PBR calipers, just like were on every car with rear disc brakes from 89+, regardless whether they had 1LE fronts or not.

It looks like yours was "clearanced" to fit smaller wheels I dunno if they ever came out with that though

Re: pic of a caliper...what kind?

yeah,,, they need to be resurfaced and I was going to paint the hub section so I saved some time not masking it off....... Anyone know for sure why the top caliper doesnt have the fins running the entire length. I was told the entire kit was bought from bear brakes

The 89-92 (so-called 1LE) and 93-97 (LT1) are essentially the same. I agree with Daz: Someone took a grinder to them to clearance the wheels.

Re: pic of a caliper...what kind?

no,, I checked for any type of sanding or grinding swirls and there are none, plus the ridges would show if they were ground at the ends. Also the emergency brake cable bracket has the fourth gen bolt which is totally different from the 3rd gen .... everything looks the exact same except for the fins and that long bolt....... also I double checked parts...

The long bolt, if we're talking about the same one, is one of the two slider pins that go into the carrier. Again, the 1LE and LT1 are essentially the same, though both have the fins as shown in the painted caliper.

No they dont,,, the 1996 fins stop in the middle of the caliper just like the ones I just bought,,, sorry I wasnt clear about the "long bolt" I meant the bolt on the emergency brake bracket thats like 2 1/2" long,,, thirdgen brackets dont have that bolt

So cosmetically a bit different, functionally the same. Interesting. I assume the long bolt is for the vibration dampener.

Re: pic of a caliper...what kind?

I noticed this when I replaced my left rear caliper. The one I got from Napa doesn't have the full-length fins, while the one that came with the rear end (bought from Ed Miller) does. Mismatched things upset me.

Re: pic of a caliper...what kind?

Wonder why the ones on the rear I got both had the long fins then... I know it's a 4th gen rear because of the width of the rear end...my ZR1s fit, lol.

Re: pic of a caliper...what kind?

there really the same caliper minus the fins and the damper on the lt1 caliper....... totally interchangeable..... prev owner prob had 1 go bad and replaced it with a 3rd gen caliper. Wont make any difference except driving you nuts..lol

Re: pic of a caliper...what kind?

I agree with the fact that the 4th Gen rears came with the short fins, its how mine came off a 95 SS, dont know why though.
