93-97 brake fittment??

OK so i shot tacreations.com an email and asked them about a brake setup for my 10 bolt and they told me i could use a kit from 93-97 and he could send me one with everything included for $150 but the e brake would take a little bit of work, is this right? Has anyone done this because that would be alot better for me than trying to piece together an 89-92 setup

as far as the e brake goes mine doesnt work right now anyway so a bit of fab work wouldnt hurt me too much

Re: 93-97 brake fittment??

i have a 10 bolt from a 93-97 in my car. The brakes are 11.65 inch PBR aluminum brakes the same thing used on 89 and later cars IIRC. The ebrake hooked up perfect. I had the cables from the original car and they just hooked right up.

ok so youve got a 4th gen rear? ill be putting these onto an 82 "saginaw" rear so it should be the same idea, i think the ebrake thing shouldnt be too much of an issue, im pretty good in tight spots and if it doesnt just hook right up ill just use a little bit of afro engineering to get the job done

I'm in the process of installing the LT1 rear brakes on an 85 orig. disc rear. the newer backing plates should bolt up in place of the delco units. I've read that the park brake cables from 89-90(with pbr brakes, 1st design) are available from NAPA, although I haven't located any yet.

The following link should provide some info on 89-97 calipers--and disc brake swap:

Re: 93-97 brake fittment??

JamesC i read through that thread and notice you had to use shims to line up the calipers with the rotors correctly, i was reading the august issue of Camaro performers and on the page with the busted 3rd gen in the feild there is a sorta porduct placement by brphotrods.com where they offer "GM 10 or 12 bolt conversion" spacer that "adapt" 98-02 brakes to any gm 10 or 12 bolt. Could i take this route with the 93-97 calipers? how different are the dimensions between the 93-97 and the 98-02 because if i can aviod shims id like to simply to make it easier on me later (id hate to lose the thigns by accident and not be able to reassemble it later on)

Thanks in advance

Re: 93-97 brake fittment??

IIRC, Ed Miller once said that because the calipers were free floating (and, as a consequence, would center themselves over the caliper), shims weren't necessary. That said, shims were apart of the original set-up.

Re: 93-97 brake fittment??

hm i guess ill just wing it and if i need some shims ill go get them, its not like im in a huge rush to get the axle on lol, i gotta set up a prop valve, finish painting the axle (need more por15) buy a new LSD unit for it cuz the old ones a junk gov loc lol its just kinda comings along as i get the extra cash, plus right now im gonna be doing my tranny rebuild so the axles been pushed back a bit

Will i need a new MC because i read that the MC for the disk/disk and disk/drum are the same, is that right? I dont see why i would need a new one if i have a prop valve in there

If you have a drum master, you have the correct one. Some have run that prop valve as well and seemed content, but I'd swap it personally.
