E-Brake "Parking Brake" Problem...

Hello,

I am in the process of replacing the rear drum brakes on my new-to-me 1984 Chevrolet Camaro. When I tried to put the spacing bar back into the place the repair manual said to put it I noticed that there were 2 slots in the brake shoes that the bar could potentially go into. I tried to find out the info online but I cannot find anything that specific. (also in that search I found some of the bars had a spring on one side, but the one I bought from AutoZone didn't have one) After I just put it in one of the slots and put it all together I tried to put the drum on and I couldn't get it back on! Turns out the e-brake is frozen and won't go back down. So, I probably need to replace the e-brake lines. Problem is that I cannot find one on any online stores.

ANY help in finding the right stuff would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you,
Adam

Did you take the other side apart as well? I hope not. In any case you'll be well served to get a Haynes manual which will have good pics of what the parts look like, I don't have anything I can post up that will do you any good, sorry.

I did take the drum off the other side to see where it should go, but the other side didn't even have the spacer bar.

Unfortunately, that brake shoe isn't like the ones I have, below is a link to a page that has something more like what I have. When I went to Autozone to buy the bar thing it did not have a spring on it, my fear is that I will need to buy a whole brake kit thing that has all the springs and things just to get this 1 spring.

Looking at this picture it looks like it doesn't matter which slot the bar goes into when putting it back together, it probably goes into both/either since it's self adjusting.

Right now, I'm working on replacing all the parking brake lines: right, left, and front. I hope I never have to do it again as it's a pain in the neck!
