Rear Drum Brake Installation
Rear Drum Brake Installation
So I had a leaking wheel cylinder and went ahead and replaced it as well as putting new springs. As well as a new adjusting screw kit. Heres my question, when removing the adjusting screw the manual had me turn it all the way back in, was i supposed to turn it out some when i put in the new one? the manual was not specific... anyone overhauled their rear drum brakes and know if it's necessary to do this?

the adjusting screw needs to be set properly or the shoes will have too much travel, possibly hyper-extending that new wheel cyl. adjust the screw until it makes light contact with the drum. be sure that the drum can still be rotated by hand with light resistance. too tight will overheat the shoes. hope this helps

thanks man, do you mean that the screw itself should lightly touch on the inside of the drum? I remember them being out about an inch, give or take. How could i tell if i turned it too far?

sorry, I meant to say adjust the screw until the "shoes" make light contact with the drum. If it is turned out too far, either the drum will not go back on, or you will not be able to turn it(depending on if you adjust with drum off or on the car).
