possible rear brake upgrade???

So I was at work today and pulled a rear wheel on a 02 suburban with a Z71 package. The truck had twin piston rear calipers and I think 12" rotors I didn't have time to measure them though. I also noticed that the suspension mounting points looked very similar to a 3rd gen. I've been rolling the idea around of taking the backing plates and brakes from one of these trucks in a junk yard and trying to fit it an extra 4th gen axle I have. Or possibley swapping a truck axle under the car. I know I would have to change the axles themselves since they are 6 lug. The brakes themselves look just like those on an LS1 car only with bigger calipers. Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

Anything is possible if you can machine things and can find a wheel that will fit. It would be nowhere near a direct bolt on or anything like that. But you couldnt put a truck axle under a camaro, they use leaf springs dont they?

Re: possible rear brake upgrade???

Like I said I only looked at it for about a minute cause I was in a rush but the axle had mounts what looked to be in the same locations for LCA, a panhard bar. Also what Apeared to be the same shock mounting locations, except with the mounts turned 90 degrees. Only issue I could see would be the torque arm mount and changing the axles. But I didn't have enough time to measure axle width or dimensions from mount to mount to see if it really would fit or not. Same goes for the brake backing plates. They looked to be the same size as my LS1 backing plates and I doubt GM would use 2 different axle flanges. I didn't have enough time to explore it further. Figured I'd just throw it out there and maybe somebody would have one of these trucks they could look at or what ever. I don't really think there would be a need for that heavy of a rear brake package for a third gen unless is was a full blown race car.

Re: possible rear brake upgrade???

FWIW I don't think it would be worth the trouble. Too much rear brake will make the car touchy to say the least. Concentrate your efforts on the front setup and then find a good rear setup to support it.
