testing calipers

Hi all, wondering if there is a way to test calipers while they are off the car?
reason for this is I bought some ls1 rear brakes and the outer seals look suspect and I want to see if they are operating properly before they go on the car.
Can I hook them up to the air compressor(psi? mine goes to 125), place a block of wood in front of the piston to prevent it from shooting out and will that show me if they are working properly?

Any input welcome!

Yea, that would work. Just be careful that you don't push the piston out too far.

I would put some brake fluid in the caliper first then you would be able to see any small leaks.

Make sure the wood doesn't come out that piston will eject like a bullet.... I've seen one punch a hole in a glass block window.

Re: testing calipers

I put them in the bench vise and the clamps prevented the pistons from coming out. It took about 90 psi to get them out and no visable leaks.
