Question about 84 posi w/disk

I've done a search on this but didn't get the answer I was looking for. I'm picking up a (supposedly) rebuilt 84 posi/disk/3/73 for $200. My question is.....did the 84 come with disk?....and if it did and it has the 10.5 rotors, can I upgrade to 12" disk? Is this an aftermarket upgrade or thru GM?
Thanks

Re: Question about 84 posi w/disk

Yes, factory discs were available in '84 (my '83 has them).
Flynbye.com is one good source for brake upgrades. There are others, also.

It was 10.5' rotor and single-piston iron calipers. You can upgrade. The front are easiest done through an after market vendor, such as Ed Miller's site (mentioned above), but you can do both fronts and rears yourself. Following is one such upgrade:

Re: Question about 84 posi w/disk

Thanks for the info guys....I'm assuming I'll need the e-brake equalizer off the 84 as well as the PV? Or can I work with what I have already? From what I've searched here, some say yes and no. I checked out the flynbye site....HOLY CRAP! $900 for the rear upgrade???

I have brand new never used OEM fully loaded calipers and probably every thing else you need to do that swap including new backing plates.

Re: Question about 84 posi w/disk

Upgrade is less when you start with a disc brake rear.

I bought PBR calipers, backing plates, lines, etc. from an 89 with a bent axle tube. By the time I sold the 9-bolt backing plates, the cost for the basics was around $60--yes, I spent more than that by the time I was done, but my point is that if you keep your eyes and ears open, a deal may come your way.

Re: Question about 84 posi w/disk

Thanks....the rearend I'm picking up has disks so I guess I'll just see what needs to be replaced when I pull it. Hopefully just new rotors and lines. I've read thru a search that rebuilding the calipers isn't all that hard. Can anyone recommend a rebuild kit?
