manual brake system (pros an cons?)

Whats the pros and cons of converting to a manual brake system on a mostly street driven car that will see some autox on the weekends?
iv picked up books, searched and read threads here on tgo and other sites. im not looking for info on how to do this but maybe one qustion along the lines is when you mod the pedel is that new ratio adequate enuff to push in the master cylinder?
basically looking for peoples experience, pros, cons etc. . .
even pics of your step up

Re: manual brake system (pros an cons?)

i have a Strange master on my 86. I like it but i do not drive this car everyday. it stops fine but you do have to be paying attention of others while driving. The pedal ratio for the small bore master is 5.5:1 and the bigger bore master is 6.5:1. If you have single piston calipers then go with the small one. if 2 piston calipers or more than go with the bigger one. You will have to drill a 3/8's hole about an 1.25" above the stock location of the brake pedal assembly. Any more questions just ask.

Unless you have such a radical set-up that vacuum boost is an
issue, power assist brakes are pretty much a "free" enhancement
over older standard systems. Purists may chime in here, but
for a predominantly street-driven app., switching to un-boosted
seems to me like a giant step backwards.
