Emergency Brake

I just got my liscense today. I have a 83 z28. It is a 5 speed and works pretty good. The only problem is the Emergency/parking brake does not work i try to pull it up and it is very hard to pull up and doesn't go very far up. Any ideas on how to fix it?

It's possible that the cables are frozen, especially if they haven't been used regularly (I'd guess that many owners who own automatics fail to do so).

Re: Emergency Brake

First, congrats on your license.. it's a rite of passage thats or sure.

You may want to take the back tires and drums off (one at a time) and check the parking brake cable and movement of the lever. you only need to move the parking brake handle a little to determine if the cable is moving freely at the brake drum. Get a Haynes manual if you dont have one and follow the instructions for removing the drum.

The OP could have rear discs, but there would still be movement, of course.
