89 Iroc Brake upgrade options and opinions

Hi,
I have an 89 Iroc 350 and need to upgrade the brake system so i can use the car at the track.
I would like to keep the budget under 1k and need a kit that comes complete.
Can anyone tell me your experience with different kits and what you would recommend?
The car has discs in the back so I would like to concentrate on the front for now.
Thanks very much,
Brian

Hey, Brian, welcome to TGO. Check the following link for a ton of choices. Also, a search will provide even more info about specific brake options.

Thanks James. I have a message into them but I am worried that I might not be able to get the kit before the track day I have scheduled at the end of the month.

I have spent alot of time reading the board and got some great ideas but could use some more specific options for where to buy them.

Can you or anyone else offer any other kit options?

Thanks again.

If you absolutely have to have it installed by the end of the month I'd go with the Baer 4 piston setup but it will blow out your budget.

Your other option is to order just the bare bones from FlynBye like the bracket and lines. Ed should be able to get those out to you in short order. Then do the rest of the work yourself.

Forgot about Spohn's 1LE setup. That should be pretty effective. I'd probably do that if I absolutely had to go to that track day. If it were me though I'd take my time and build the system I really want. If you miss the track day, oh well, there is always another.

Good info.

How do you think the Spohn 1LE setup stacks up against the FlyBye kit?

Also I see that bigbrakeupgrade's site is down, does anyone have the number for them or are they out of business?

Thanks

Spohns kit is not assembled, its just the parts. Unless things have changed.

Flynbye is a complete bolt on deal, with the spindle and brake line.

Or you can just pickup the modified spindle and hub and piece together the rest, usually parts can be found to save some money if you have the time.

The 1LE setup is capable. In fact it was used on the 1LE factory stock race cars. However FlynBye offers a number of kits that will perform better under track conditions. This may or may not be necessary depending on your HP, weight, tires, track.

Do you require they fit with stock Iroc wheels?

Yes, I need them to work with the stock rims, I am unsure how much I am going to put into this car to make it track ready so I'm keeping the stock rims for now. Most of the car is going to stay stock unless I fall in love with this thing my first track day and decide to run it competitively....heck I'm not even sure if there is a SCCA class for these things anymore.
