Horrible Scraping Noise!!!

Ok, so I just replaced front rotors, pads, hoses, wheel bearings (inner and outer) and bled the brakes. Before I did all this, I had a horrible pull to the right and the smell of a burning brake pad. There was also a loud scraping noise, which I thought was the stuck pad. Now, I have decent braking power but a lot of pedal travel still, no more pulling and more more smell. However the scraping is still there! I have not touched the rear brakes because the pads look good. Anyone have an idea what is causing this? It only happens while moving...obviously.

Re: Horrible Scraping Noise!!!

Hmm...A scraping noise could be the backing plate bent and touching the rotor. I've seen that. Jack up the car and spin the wheels one at a time to see where it is coming from. Take that wheel off to eliminate anything touching the wheel. If it still does it then look at the plate. If there is still a problem eliminate one thing at a time by removing it until you find the cause.

And if you feel like you still have too much pedal travel, bleed more. Might need to bleed rears as well - best bleeding practice is all 4, starting at rear pass, then rear driver, then frt pass, then frt driver.

Re: Horrible Scraping Noise!!!

I have rear drum brakes and a spring broke inside one of the drums. It made a sound like your describing.
I replaced the front pads before I figured it out...
