Brakes Pull To The Right
Brakes Pull To The Right
First a little history:
One day I drove my wife's 91 RS (3.1L) over to a friend's place, on the way home one of the brake calipers stuck and by the time I got home you can imagine what the condition of everything was in.
Replaced the calipers with the larger ones available from Rick's Camaros. Replaced both rotors with new ones along with the bearings and races.
I took it for a short test around the neighborhood and seems like the car is pulling to the right when you hit the brakes. I jacked it up and the right wheel seems to be hanging a bit.
Anyone run into anything similar? I'm puzzled.

Pulling as described usually indicates a bad flex hose (they deteriorate internally and act as a one-way check valve, which may be why the caliper stuck). Since you didn't replace the hoses, I'd suggest you start there.

Thanks James, will give that a shot next. The one wheel was very, very hot (burned paint off the shield) when I tore it down so that could have had an effect on the hose.
Many thanks for the speedy reply.

Re: Brakes Pull To The Right
The heat doesn't "affect" the hose.
What happens is, the already microscopic holes in the fittings at the ends, where the rubber gets crimped on, rusts; and as the rust builds up, eventually it gets to a point where an ENORMOUS amount of pressure is required to move any significant fluid through it. WHich is available when you push the brakes, several hundred psi in fact; but there's basically NONE moving the fluid back out of the caliper. End result is, caliper gets pressed up against the rotor, but can't return.
Replace the hoses on both sides. THey have both been subject to the EXACT same conditions for the EXACT same length of time and are therefore likely to be in arbitrarily close to the EXACT SAME condition. Might as well knock em both out and not have to worry about it for another 10 or 15 years.
