SINGLE PISTON CALIPER

I just went to autozone to get new front calipers for my 1989 gta.I HAVE THE SINGLE PISONT calipers on it now and went to get the same thing. There cumputert says that they are only for cars with rear drum brakes.they say i should be usin the dual claliper pistons.I thought those were for the performance package only. do i have the wrong caliper on the car to start with. Also there is no bracket provision on the front that the dual piston calipers would fit in.So i bought the single ones lie i have now.Am i wrong? i have four wheel disks on the car.

Re: SINGLE PISTON CALIPER

the computer is wrong, and/or the sales person is a moron. The front calipers dont really care what brakes are on the back of the car. There are only 2 front calipers, the standard and the 1le. If you dont have the 1le brake package, you cant use it. You bought the right ones.

Be careful with the chain auto parts stores with these cars. For one thing, they all label the very rare 1LE package as the "performance package" in terms of brakes. That'll confuse owners and less than rocket scientist IQ parts people, who will try to sell you those brake components if you say you have a Z28 or Trans Am (with them assuming that this is a "performance" car so it must have the "performance" brakes). Pep Boys also has the wrong outer front wheel bearings listed for the 1990-91 Z28, I learned the hard way.

I'm sure there's other land mines to watch out for. The best practice if you can is to bring the part you're replacing in.

Since the OP's question was answered and since the thread has fallen into bickering....
