Hi, Ok I am going to install LT1 rear disc on a 9-bolt. I ordered the brackets, the question I have is. Do I need to remove the axle bearings to install the caliper bracket or does it go under the retainer for the axle bearing? Thanks for any Help,Ray

Re: 9-bolt disc ?
Not sure i completely understand the way you worded your question but ill answer what i know. To swap the caliper mounting bracket you must pull the axles. The bearings are pressed onto the axles and while you have it out it might be a good time to redo the axle bearings and seals. If they arnt leaking however than maybe just throw them back in and run them. You will need a slide hammer to get the axle out. Once you do that you can pull the backing plates off and replace.

Hi, I am not sure which side the caliper mounting bracket goes on, the side toward the axle flange or towards the diff. housing? Ray

The rusty backing plate is from a 9-bolt. Note that it appears to have been placed against the axle flange as the 10-bolt would be.

I need to go look in my big pile of parts, but I could have sworn that the LT1 brake flange is totally different than the 4rd gen, that it's a heavy piece that looks almost cast.

I'm thinking you meant "different than the thirdgen." If so, the 89-92 backing plates look much different than the 93-97 backing plates.

Re: 9-bolt disc ?
Not sure if the "10-bolt" it is referring to is a 3rd gen one or not, but if the 3rd gen 10-bolt pattern & 4th gen 10-bolt pattern is the same.....The LT backing plate should be able to be modded to fit pretty easily.
