Emergency Brake Cable

How do you remove the emergency brake cable from the backing plate on rear drum brakes? Am very puzzled.

Re: Emergency Brake Cable

Just did it ... when looking from where the brake shoes are there are three tabs that stick out around the outside of the e-brake fitting that goes through the backing plate. You need to compress these to pull the cable out through the back side of the backing plate.

You can usually get one or even two started through the hole by angling them through the opening. Use a screwdriver or pliers to compress the remaining one(s) and the cable will pop right through. It can definitely be frustrating even when you know what needs to be done.

Hope this helps.
