Customer of mine brought in his 1989 GTA with a new Moser 12 bolt. He got these backing plates from hawks third gen but was quite some time ago and he has no idea what they are for. He thought he ordered backing plates for pbr brakes but there is no way they will fit. Any help as far as what hear they are and calipers, rotors and pads would help me out a bunch. Thanks in advance!

they look like the early iron caliper brackets, not even close too the pbr ones
the 10-bolt backing plates, are nla from GM (P/N 10136853 and 10136854) check the following sources:

So would you think 1987 set up would work then with 1987 rotors as well. I put a stock 1989 rotor on and check clearance of the bracket and it is too close for comfort. Not knowing what it is for sure is proving to be tough. Guy wants to drive the car before the season ends and I finished up everything else. Paint, engine, pro charger and all the suspension complete with a strano set up. Guy has a lot of money in this thing.

The 87 Delco-Moraine set-up (backing plates, rotors, calipers)you mention should work fine. Their reputation on TGO is bad, though perhaps not as bad as many members maintain. That said, the 89+ 1LE/PBR set-up is a better choice.Originally Posted by JPack

Thanks for the replies. My question is will the early disc brakes work on the current backing plates installed? The owner of the car doesn't want to swap out to the pbr brakes even though I think he should. His car and money I guess so it's his decision. I have looked online locally for that brake set up. No one stocks the calipers and have to be ordered in no matter where I looked. I am beginning to understand why he hasn't finished the car and brought it to me. Now it's my headache.

Those are the correct backing plates for the early discs.Originally Posted by JPack

I'd think the rotors, calipers, pads, lines could be purchased at any auto parts store. They were, after all, standard on thirdgens until 89.Originally Posted by JPack

Thanks. Yeah nowhere in the Chicagland area has them in stock. All can get them brought in but nothing in stock. Guess he won't be getting the car back tonight like he wanted. Its out of my hands. Was trying to get it back to him earlier than his due date since he is in such a rush.
