Rear Caliper Question

I have a question that is not about a Camaro exactly. I converted a rear axle from drum to disk brakes using front metric calipers from a Monte Carlo. The brackets are on the rear of the axle on both sides. The caliper pistons are 2.5" and the bias is terrible, even with a bias valve turned all the way. I know the rear calipers from 82 - 88? Camaro's and Trans Am's are 1.87" so I want to try a pair and see if they will help.

I have looked at rebuilt units online and both sides are the same part number. This leads me to believe that the above calipers are mounted either on the top or one on the front and one on the rear. I can't picture a different way. Since I don't have a car to compare to can someone tell me how these are mounted by the factory?

Thanks

From 82-88 the pass side caliper with its flex line is mounted in front of the axle, the drivers’ side with its hardline to the rear.
