98 ls1 rear e brakes

So I recently swaped an ls1 rear end and I also bought e brake cables from flynbye so I installed it an I turn on the car and the e brake light is on and I put the car in gear an the e brakes were infact engaged even though the lever is down. I notice that wen I lift the handle it moves maybe a half inch up. Any tips on how to let my e brakes disengage?

That alone shouldn't cause the light to come on. I'd also check the switch that the handle depresses - it engages when the handle is lifted to turn on the dash brake light.

To get movement in the handle, back off the adjusters in the park brake drums as Jetmeck noted.

Re: 98 ls1 rear e brakes

i found the adjusters and its better now. the light is still on(my brakes are still spongy after bleeding) so im assuming my master cylinder is on its way out (looks dirty on the inside) hopefully changing the master will turn of the light.
