iam swapping the rear to a 94 camaro to my 82 trans am, everything will fit even the brakes, ijust need toget them to work... how and what can i switch over, and do i delete the proportioning vaulve? or do ijust swap MC? what about the booster can that swap over?

They will "work" as soon as you plug in the hydraulic brake line and bleed. Since you have now changed your brake efficiencies, I would look at something like an adjustable prop valve to allow you to dial in the bias. I would keep the OEM master cylinder.

Working ABS is a major can of worms seeing as how our cars don't have the controllers or wheel speed sensors.

 

so use the master cylinder off the camaro and where can i get a controlable prop. valve. also the E-brake cable is it possible to switch over the brakets that hold the lines in place with a bit of fab work? and the ABS so its not a total lost cause? i can use the rear WSS and once i get a new front end for the car i can prob modify ones the the front wheels and tie the ABS Comp into the DLC connector? cuz that would totaly elliminate my prop. valve delema.

 

Wilwood and a few others make adjustable prop valves.

I am not sure about the e-brake cable. I expect you will need a conversion cable.

ABS will not eliminate your prop valve issue. You do not want ABS engaging before it has to. The brakes still have to be balanced. ABS is not impossible, nothing is, but IMO its a ton of work and you are breaking new ground.

I did the same swap . as for the e-brake set up, I took the bracket from the 4th gen by drilling the spot welds out and welding it under my 1990 , this way i could use the cables that came with the 4 th gen . the front cable however isn't long enough. so I had one custom made for the length I needed . so after you mt the tunnel e break bracket with stock 4th gen rear cables measure the diference in length , and work it out by having a custom one or try to splice a cable , this I dont recomend as I did that and it failed after a week.

 

how much would one say is a reasonable price to pay for everything to do a 4th gen rear end and brake set up?

 

If you want new I would wait until advance auto is having an online sale. Often you can get 30-40% off. Order online and pick up in the store.

 

I don't have a advance here in Ontario. And I was hoping to buy a used rear end and just new pads calipers and rotors.

 

I picked up the 4th Gen torque arm along with the rear end. Do I need to use that for the swap? Is the 4th Gen better than the 3rd Gen? He also gave me the 4th Gen shocks. Any benefit to using those? I don't want mine to ride any higher or lower, she's perfect right where she is. I recently installed a set of Vette C6 wheels and love the height.

I don't really know from experience yet, but I have heard and read mixed opinions on the 4th gen rear end being better and stronger over our stockers. To me, it only makes sense that it would be stronger and as a result better. Im sure u could use used shocks but why? Buy new ones. As far as i know u dont need the torque arm to do the swap. Keeping in mind though, 4th gen rears overall length is slightly more than what u are using now.

Same 28-spline axles as the 89-92 cars. No stronger.

First off, if I have "thread jacked", I apologize. Not really sure what thread jacking is. I just figured that since there is already a thread concerning someone else doing the swap, I would join in.

Got my rear end swapped, but had some issues.
1. My C6 Vette wheels do not fit. The center of my wheels do not fit over the center of the axle. I had to put my 2" adapter back on and it looks like crap. About 1-2" of rubber sticks out past the fender. Also, pretty sure that when I do figure out how to get them to fit, they will rub the fender well pretty bad in some spots.
2. The drivers side brake bleeder valve is rounded so I couldn't bleed that side, but did do the passenger side with no issues.
3. Already knew this, but gonna have to get a custom set of parking brake cables made.
4. I have no idea where to put the adjustable proportioning valve I bought. Do I keep the stock proportioning valve and add it inline with the the rear brake line or remove the stock proportioning valve altogether.
