yeah, the stuff is sitting in my bedroom.. i look at it just sitting there every day... haven't had the time to put the stuff on the car yet...
but i did learn something the other night- i grabbed one of my spare 15X7 Monte Carlo SS aluminum wheels to see if it would fit. it almost fits- the fins on the calipers hit by maybe .060" - 30 seconds worth of massaging with the dynafile on each caliper would probably allow them to clear. other than that everything clears by about 1/4"- and that's without the 3/16" wheel spacers i made for the GTA wheels...

I have heard of some leaving the knuckle on the car and doing the fab work (cutting, drilling, tapping)
Having done your's on the bench, could you see yourself doing it while still on the car? Impossible or just uncomfortable with the idea?

IMO it is not a good idea to do on the car. How would you jig it to make sure your drilled hole and tap are straight?

too do any brake upgrade you pretty much breaking it down to just spindle
the only thing that holds spindle is the strut, balljoint, and tie rod its fairly simple and mightest well remove your already there no need to cut corners for such a simple task.. you probably already knew that tho..
Do it right the first time around and not the 2nd or third pair of spindles

also, i don't like my cars being down any longer than i can help it, so i bought a second set of spindles and new rotors to chop down.. whenever i do get the car into the garage to swap it on, it should be in and out in a couple of hours.

Re: doing LS1 swap.. bought some parts, have some questions.
finally got the brakes on the car.. only took about 3 hours, plus a 2 hour break in the middle to make a run to get some red loctite and cotter pins..

i decided to get new rubber lines while i was at the parts store, since it would be silly to trust 27 year old rubber hoses with those brand new calipers.. why did they make the left and right lines different? the only thing i could see different were the locating tabs where it mounts to the body.. that just seems kinda stupid to make that one little thing different and have 2 part numbers..
the brakes gravity bled themselves while i picked up tools and what not- the pedal was high and firm right away, and it stopped awesome for the 4 hard stops i did out on the road.. should be awesome once i get the pads and rotors bedded together once i start driving it... but the best part is that my existing 15X7 Monte SS wheels cleared after a little massaging of the fins on the back of the calipers.. i had to grind away maybe .060, so i didn't take away much if any of the strength of the calipers..

it's a rusty $400 beater that i got a few years ago... i aint gonna worry about making it too pretty- or even pretty at all... it gets driven down a lot of gravel roads so every nook and cranny is jammed full of rocks and dust.. think of it as an F body rat rod..

it probably needs tie rods and the balljoints are a little loose, but the rubber bushings are in good shape and the shocks and struts are tight..

thirdgen rat rod would be pretty cool if you can get the look right
yea mines a daily driver when it was up running ..gavel roads to when i had to drive to the gun range on base but it cleans up well in my experiance its a rubber coating can take more then painted coating
should make a rally thirdgen lol that wuld be a fun car in the gravel
you have disc rears also ? or drum ?

it's not a "rat rod"- a term a hate and a crowd i wouldn't want to be associated with- but that's the mosq common frame of reference to make people understand why it isn't all shiny and pretty... it's just a piece of **** 86 Camaro with flat black rattle can paint that the previous owner sprayed on it..
it's just drums in the back.. i got it with the factory V6 in it, started to swap an LT1 into it, but settled on a carbureted vortec headed 305 for reliability for a long road trip i took to Texas last year. now i've got this aluminum 5.3 that i'm gathering parts for...

i also hate the word "patina"... my cars just look like **** because it's cheaper that way and you don't need to worry about anything happening to them in the Wal Mart parking lot.. but now my piece of **** stops...

Did you use the factory 3rd gen rubber brake lines or the factory 4th gen rubber brake lines?

i bought brand new stock replacements for an 86 Camaro... they work perfect, except they are just a little bit "off" from being able to be clipped into the brackets on the struts... i'm going to fix that by relocating the bolt holes on the brackets to drop them down about 1/2" or so..

The problem I'm having is the bolt for the line hits the control arm. I've got to make some sort of steering stop.

i made my own brackets, so the caliper might have wound up in a slightly different location than the brackets you can buy... also, my caliper doesn't hit the steering stop on the control arm- it actually hits right on the end of the bottom bolt that holds the bracket to the spindle...
