Brakes on a budget?
I don't want to skimp on something important like brakes, trying to figure out the best way to proceed.
My car (1985 Camaro) currently has disc all the way around; I've looked at a lot of the upgrade kits, not sure if that is the best way to go or just replace the pads & rotors with a stock version.
The C4 upgrade can be found for around $900, this is just for the front. Would some kind of upgrade be required for the rear as well? Or can I just do an upgrade on the front & then replace the pads and rotors on the rear?
I would love to keep the total price under $1,000 but am willing to go higher if it's a better decision in the long run. Thanks.

My suggestion if you want cheap is to tune the stock system and make sure you are getting the most out of it. Disks, pads, proportioning, etc.

Is there a preferred brand of performance stock replacements? I know that Tire Rack sells some slotted rotors (Hawk, StopTech, etc.) that I can get for $70 - $100 each. I can also get the Napa brand Premium drilled and/or slotted rotors for cost through my brother. Just wondering if any of these are better or worse than others?

My pads and rotors on the front are ebay drilled and slotted with ceramic pads... the pads were a bit dusty for ceramics, but very reliable and predictable. When the pads wore out, replaced them with autozone ceramics.
rear is drum, so that is another completely different issue i have, but i got the parts for an LS1 rear swap, GM backing plates and calipers, and ebay drilled and slotted rotors wtih ceramic pads
