Searched and got vague answers...Rear end swap, what do i need?

Searched and got vague answers...Rear end swap, what do i need?

Alright, heres the deal. I just tried searching for about 20 minutes and got LOADS of answers...but none of them are very specific. I'm buying an '87 IROC on either wednesday or saturday and it has a 10 bolt rear with drum brakes. since ill be turning this car into my driver, I want to take the 9 bolt disk rear end out of my '89 and put it into the '87.

Now...what do i need to do this? I have a complete '89 with everything on it that will be the donor car. How do I go about doing the swap as far as the brake lines go? I've pulled a rear end out of a different '89 before so i know how to physically do the swap, but once i get to the brake lines i'll be completely clueless and in the dark. Can someone please give me a step by step on the brake lines? the '87 has a 305 TPI with the 700R4 if that helps any.

If the new rear end is complete with lines, the single one that you'll need to remove and reattach is the center line, the one that attaches to the body and goes to the front of the car. For best brake performance, swap in the disc combination valve.

Excellent! thank you so much,now forgive me for not knowing.. but what exactly is the combination valve? and is it difficult to change out?

The combination valve is often called the proportioning valve; however, the proportioning valve is only one section of a block which also contains a metering valve and a brake light warning switch.

Pics below. I'd advise penetrating oil where possible and line wrenches.

oh, alright. I knew what that was, just didn't know the name for it. It should be as easy as unbolting the lines from the master cylinder and reversing the process on the new car, i would assume. Awesome, this is turning out to be easier then i figured it would be. should be able to do it in one weekend.
