1988 GTA Rear Cast Iron Caliper

Replacing both rear brake calipers and am having a problem. When putting the new pads on there is not enough clearance to slide or even "encourage" the calipers/pads back onto the rotors. Rotors are in good shape at 1.035" with no warping. I have verified that the inner pad is flat on the dampening ring and piston, but it seems the piston needs to go in another 1/8th of an inch.

Do I need to rotate the piston 180° on the emergency brake "shaft" in order to get this needed clearance or am I missing something obvious?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff
