thirdgen C5 Big Break upgrade Swap Review

This is my review and pics of installing a C5 brake upgrade kit on my 1988 IROCZ . I purchased the Partial kit from BIGBrakeupgrade.com that includes modified spindles, hub, bracket, and hardware. I also got earl's braided lines that they sell.

This partial kit does not include the 2 abutment brackets needed part #12455799. I purchased the rotors and brake pads from advance auto parts and the Calibers w/lifetime warranty from autozone.

I do like how easy it is to change rotor and pads after installing the kit versus our third gens removing the bearings. I plan on purchasing a more serious set of rotors and pads just to swap on for track days since it can be done in about 30mins after the swap.

Another benefit is the basic rotors and pads for a c5 corvette are not that much more expensive than our factory ones so I'm not worried about future replacement costs like other kits.

INSTALLATION : Over all it is a unbolt and bolt up kit. Do not forget you'll need tools to remove tie rod and ball joint and this would be a good time to replace if they are questionable. Pay attention to rotors and calibers and insure they are going on the right side. Also a jack to lift the A-arms on reinstallation is preferred method of mine.

The stainless steel line took a while to get set where it wouldn't rub anywhere and I mounted the clamp sideways to do it. If anyone's got a clean looking install on the stainless lines please share!

Before and after performance: my prior brakes where good performing ceramics but after the swap they seemed inadequate and I even locked the tires up a few times after the install playing with the car. So take time to play and relearn your brakes after the install. Mine are probably slightly more prone to more locking with the new lines and firmer peddle .

Overall I've put 500+miles on the brakes and think it was a good investment and I'm a fan of make it slow down quicker before you make it go quicker

Hope this helps a few people out and ill add more pics on the next couple spots cause of the3 pics max. Feel free to ask or add any info that help any other members out after all that's what this sites about....

Thanks for the post. I'm leaning this way after I get my car running. This the standard C5 12.7" set up? I guess that 17's will still fit? Thanks
