emergency brake cable

I swapped the rear end out of a 82 camaro over to a 90 camaro my rear end had drums the new one has disc. My e brake light is on and won't go off and everytime I shift from drive back to park it makes a grinding noise. What could cause this? Are the e cables from the 82 not interchangeable with the 90 model?

Re: emergency brake cable

My e-brake light is tied to a sensor at the emergency brake handle inside the center console. There's a wire connected to a sensor that, when the e-brake is lowered, it opens the circuit (pushes the metal plate away from the sensor contact). When the e-brake is raised, the circuit is closed (metal plate contacts sensor) and the light comes on.
