Zr1 brake kit
For those of you running new ZR1 style brake calipers, what size wheels need to be ran to clear calipers? 18s? 19s? and what brake booster should I run?

Re: Zr1 brake kit
You mean actual ZR1 brakes with the carbon discs (390 mm) or the ZL1 (370)?? 19" is about the minimum.

19s with plenty of clearance. The 15 inch rotor sure makes life a lot easier when it comes to designing the caliper bracket. The 370mm option puts the caliper ears very close to the spindle. Especially on the staggered design of the ZL1 type calipers.

Re: Zr1 brake kit
those are 370mm zl1 brakes, I have the same ones. The bracket is the same or similar to the CTSV bracket but the calipers have massive mounting ears and as such are a bit of a problem.
You do realize that the rotor hat has a centerbore that is a tad too small, it needs to be bored out.

Re: Zr1 brake kit
Why use these massive brakes without having ABS? Calipers and rotors with far less performance will still lock the wheels up.

Re: Zr1 brake kit
I agree. I have C6 Z06 brakes on the front of my car and 13" rotors in the rear with OEM PBR calipers and it is way too much brake for the car. I'm also running Baer 2pc crossdrilled and slotted rotors. This amount of brake on this car is overkill.
Just my opinion, dont bite my head off

Re: Zr1 brake kit
I have the c6z06 stuff in 1 if my gen 3s and my gen4. I prefer the 3 without the abs. They are easy to modulate especially with the 1pc pads and aftermarket rotors (oems are directional canes but there's only 1 rotor so 1 sude is actually the wrong way around kinda weird since the c6z51 are l and r) wider tires up front help also.

My opinion is changing lately. The price that you can get the rebuilt 4 piston calipers (and soon 6 piston!) from major auto parts stores has been coming down dramatically. While I still think they are overkill, if the price is cheap enough why not? Worse case scenario your too touchy and you have to run an adjustable valve for front and rear.

Re: Zr1 brake kit
Problem is that once you get above a 13" 4 piston braking system (without ABS), the front tires are always going to limit braking performance - some also have issues with modulation and lockup, others no such problem.
I've read way too many "mainstream" auto review magazines where a journalist expected a decrease in stopping distances with the ceramic rotors, yet did not test out that way. Again, that would be the front tire limiting performance - but journalists write, not understand about car dynamics or engineering (although they should learn after a while).

Re: Zr1 brake kit
to all who state that its too much brake for the car ... incorrect...
its too much brake for YOUR car or YOUR set up
if you can drive and know how to set up a car properly there is no such thing as too much braking.... you just need to set up your fulcrum points to where there not so touchy... bigger brakes means consistant braking and heat control...
however your choice in tires directly contributes to your issues of locking up... to do it right, if your planning on abraking upgrade, then you needto plan on a tire upgrade too
