driver side rear drum brake problem

Car: 1989 Iroc rebuild
Engine: 355 carb'd
Transmission: 5spd
Axle/Gears: 3:08 pos for a while
driver side rear drum brake problem
i have done hundreds of drum brakes and this one got me stumped, new shoes with new hardware kit wont touch pivot pin at top,shoes offf 1/4 inch. the bar between shoes has little play but no play on ebrake arm which is reversed from passenger side. whats the problem?

Been awhile, did you ever figure this out?
I have had that problem, and just squeezed the shoes together at the top and screwed in the adjuster at the bottom until the drum fit over them.
From your 2nd picture, it looks like that winged washer isn't up on the peg properly to allow both spring hooks to fit under the head of the pin. That won't cause the shoes to hang up, but if you haven't yet, I'd make sure it gets up to where it needs to be before you run it. Wouldn't want that spring to jump off while you're driving.
