So somehow the 2 rear e brake cables came loose from the bracket that attaches them to the handle cable. Is there a way to get them back on without removing the drive shaft. It doesn't seem difficult but there is absolutely no room to get my hands or a wrench up there.

It's Not Easy,But It Can Be Done No Need To Remove The Drive Shaft.

Loosen the but on that bracket/cable.That will allow the equalizer bracket to move closer to the cable end.Re-adjust the nut back

Yeah. I get that's how it's done... It's just damn near impossible to get a wrench on that nut. Plus mine is all rusted making it even more difficult.

Ues a deep socket a few extension and a small ratchet. That's how I do mine.

Conversely, get a Transmission Tailshaft cap. Unbolt U-joints, remove driveshaft, plug cap in quickly to reduce mess/fluid loss.

do the job with lots of room, then re-install the driveshaft when done. Clean up minor mess.

Plus the tail shaft cap is very useful for various projects when you need to remove the driveshaft, or when pulling the trans/engine/etc.

if you unbolt the DS at the rear, and just drop it down, leaving it in the transmission, it should give you enough room to work above it.

Its easier to just unbolt the driveshaft and let it hang ot remove it. If you jack up the car from the rear, you wont lose ant trans fluid.

The cables are suppose to ride in the guides on the top/sides of the tunnel before attaching to the equalizer. If they are not in the guides, they can become slack and fall apart like what happened to you.
