86 disk brake leak

Just bought an 86 trans am WS6 with disk brake 9 bolt rear. Pulling it off the trailer it sprung the brake leak on the drivers side rear. This morning i jacked it up and took a look, it looks to be leaking where the line comes into the caliper. Im assuming its best to just replace that section of brake line instead of pulling it and checking seals? Where would i go to find these lines. Checking online it shows the rubber hoses for center and passenger side but nothing for the drivers side

Re: 86 disk brake leak

If memory serves, in that system, the driver's side steel line bolts directly to the caliper; there is no rubber hose.

Wouldn't be surprised if that steel line cracked. Usual cure is to go to the parts store, buy a stick of line with the right flares, and bend it up. You could also try Classic Tube, Inline Tube, Finelines, etc.

Yea it is hard line on drivers side. i found a new stainless line set on summit that says it is for 9 bolt rear with disk brakes so i guess ill order that set and just replace the lines in the rear

send old 1 to The Right Stuff brakes. They will bend 1 to match factory in steel or stainless steel

Re: 86 disk brake leak

Just be careful to order the right line, the 9 bolt line is very different than the other options. Classic Industries had some decent pictures so you can verify before you order.

Yes (1986 w/disc):

Driver's side: steel line only & caliper located at disc rear position
Passenger side: with rubber hose & caliper located at front of disc (rare system)
