Good evening, I'm running into an interesting problem, my car is an 87 IROC with a 434 twin turbo. I want to change the master cylinder, to have the brake lines come out toward the driver's fender. Right now, I have to bend the brake lines over the top of the master cylinder, and then bend them under the brake booster, as the turbo downpipe is close to master cylinder. Anyone know what would work with this scenerio.
1982-1988 G-body (Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, Cutlass) master cylinder will put the outlets on the driver side toward the fender, but the outlet sizes are NOT metric bubble flare like the 1985 and up F-Bodies are.
The outlet sizes of the G-body are 1/2-20 inverted flare (rear port of master cylinder to front brakes) and 9/16-18 (front port of master cylinder to rear brakes). These master cylinders should have the same bore size as the 3rd Gen F-Bodies.
Other option is a RIGHT HAND DRIVE (postal truck) 2000 S10 Truck. This has a 1.0" bore and has the same outlet sizes and location as the G-body master cylinder above. It should also bolt up to your stock booster. The only issue will be the reservoir may be too tall to fit under an F-Body hood. A LEFT HAND DRIVE 1998 and up S10 Truck and SUVs have the outlets on the engine side also (like the 3rd Gen F-Body). The sizes of these outlets are 1/2-20 inverted flare on both outlets.
The 1985 to 1992 F-bodies have M11 x 1.5 bubble flare (rear port of master cylinder to front brakes) and a M12 x 1.0 bubble flare (front port of master cylinder to rear brakes).
Brakequip sells an adapter to reduce the G-Body master cylinder outlets down to a 3/8-24 fittings. Part numbers are BQ124 (9/16-18 to 3/8-24) and BQ9300 (1/2-20 to 3/8-24). I would contact Brakequip to double check these part number sizes.
