Rear Drums Not Adjusting Correctly
Hello,
I have been trying to figure out the problem with our 1991 Firebird's drums for over a year now, with no luck. I have taken it to many shops as well as asked on various groups and nothing has seemed to help, so I am hoping someone here might be able to.
When we originally got the car the driver side adjuster wasn't working correctly; it would become very loose and nearly fall out no matter how much or little we adjusted it. We ended up doing a complete brake job on them as a result. Everything seemed to be working well for a week or so, and then the brakes started to sound like a bus after it warmed up. Come to find out the drums were being glazed, the driver side drum needing a hammer to be removed, and the adjusters on both sides were doing the opposite of what it was before the brake job; now it was over adjusting. We took it to multiple shops to make sure the brakes were done correctly, which they were. The adjusters are on the right way and on the correct side. We also made sure the innards and shoes were the correct ones for the axle. I was told to check the rubber hose, which there is only one (center brake hose), and it is in good shape from what I can see and feel. At this point, we have no idea what is going on and no one else seems to either. In addition, last week we put on new drums and as soon as the car was taken down off of the jack, the drum on the driver's side became impossible to come off (this is without even starting the car or moving it. all we did was lower it down off the jack and then back up again a bit later to check something). We had to take a hammer to the drum in order to remove it, but the passenger side was fine.
If anyone has any idea of what could be going on, I would greatly appreciate it. It's been a huge headache.
