TTA Front Caliper Swap

So while I was doing some research last night on some dealer memorabilia and advertisements, I noticed that the promotional material for the 1989 Turbo Trans Am said it came with upgraded 2 piston brake calipers. Sure enough, if you go to RockAuto, you can find 2 piston calipers listed under 1989 Firebird Turbo V6. And they are IN STOCK. I have no idea if the front spindles on a TTA matches my 86 WS6 front spindles or not. Is there anyone that has attempted to do this swap before? Or maybe someone who owns a TTA can weigh in on how good the brake performance is? Would you need to change brake hoses or would it be a fairly plug and play solution? I could also only find one set of pads and rotors for it by Centric on RockAuto and it wouldn't say what they were made of beyond "proprietary blend." I feel it's something worth looking at for increased braking performance on thirdgens without breaking the bank, as none of it was particularly expensive either. If they bolt on to the regular spindles from earlier cars, I would love to do the swap and find out what performance is like.

Re: TTA Front Caliper Swap

The TTA uses whats called the 1LE brakes.
most parts places call it the HD option.
Yes you can use your spindles after you cut, drill, tap them.
that's how GM did it.
You'll also need the mounting bracket, 12" rotors, seal, new bearings.

Re: TTA Front Caliper Swap

Honestly..... you should go with front LS brakes instead due to availability and increased braking performance if you have at least 16 inch wheels. its basically the same amoun of work but supposedly better performance.

I say supposedly as I have yet to install mine!
