91 TA brake upgrade
91 TA brake upgrade
So I’m looking to upgrade brakes on my wife’s 91 TA. She would like something to give it a bit more modern feel.
It has the factory 16 wheels. Is there any kits that are worth while that don’t break the bank?

Re: 91 TA brake upgrade
I have a 91 TA Vert.
Disc Front, Drum rear.
For a while, I considered "updating" the car and going to disc all around like my 94 TA Vert is........but i talked myself out of the effort after reminding myself that the rear drums are just about 20% of the stopping power, anyway....
So instead, I opted for a Powerstop kit all around, and while I was in there replaced the master cylinder and the 3 hoses, then bled the system.
Much better.

LS1 kit from www.bigbrakeupgrade.com. Do a search and you'll how popular this swap is. I wouldn't waste money upgrading stock brakes. They are trash.

Assume you'll need to send in your spindles to be modified as I don't think they have cores any longer.
But the upgrade is top notch and Scott is great to work with.

Re: 91 TA brake upgrade
first, you'll need to figure out what this means.
modern feel?
every modern vehicle i drive has a different feel.
Once you figure out and define this, then you can figure out how to fix your brakes.
Big brakes will stop the car faster, with less heat build up in the rotors.
That is not a 'feel'..
A big brake booster with a soft squishy pedal is a feel.
No power brakes and a nice firm pedal is a feel.
See what i am getting at?
You might just need a new master cylinder, and a booster, or a good brake overhaul to get the feel she is looking for.
