Rear Drum Brake Shoes Replacement 1984 Trans AM
Yesterday, began the process of removing the old shoes & not much of a problem. Used brake cleaner to cleanup the hardware & backer plate.
Today I realized that I had to loosen off the parking brake cable to reinstall the cable to the shoe. That process on my 1972 Buick GS was simple. Not for the Firebird!
Car up in the air on jacks& jack stands on all 4 corners.
The adjusting bolt/nut - well it had been coated with rust retardant, probably from new. What a job! Fortunately, I sprayed on a lot of brake cleaner +
wiped with a towel. There was so little room to work. Got big hands, u are screwed & would probably have to remove the driveshaft.
I have a set of folding (90*) metric rachets. It took a long time to loosen that nut so that I could connect the parking brake cable to the shoe.
Now I discovered that the primary & secondary shoes are the same - all primary.
I emailed the company that sold me the shoes & will await his reply. First time that I have ever had this scenario.
My tale of woe!
