Need Purchasing Help
Had my eyes on a black Third Gen for awhile now and today I finally went to check it out. However, since the owner wasn't there (its parked at a repair shop and the owner of the shop is the owner of the car), I was left with just to look at the outside.
The problem is that when I was trying to identify at least the series, the ONLY badges I saw were badges that said "Camaro" and none other.
So my question is what possible model or series is this Third Gen? I know its not a lot to go on, but hopefully it can help out some.
Thanks in advance

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for information wise. Your best bet is to get the vin off of the dash area by looking in the windshield and running it. That will give you all of the basic info you will need to know like: year, engine size, etc.

I just need at least the series that its in like Iroc, RS, or Z28 or whatever. If I can get that, I can find out everything as far as everything else I wanted to know

Ah well that takes a little more hunting then and depends on how familiar are you with 82-92 camaros. Where the problem lies is that anyone can tell you that it is an Iroc when in fact is is just a base RS with all the Iroc badges.
OK so I know that IROCs were not made before 1985 and not after 1990 and that the Berlinetta was only made until 1987 and so on. So basically do your research and if something doesn't seem right then it probably isn't right. Everything you need to know or could ever want to know is on this forum you just have to look for it.
Here is an example. When I wen to look at the '87 IROC I currently own I knew I was looking for a camaro where the 7th digit in the vin was an F/G/H =305ci V8 or an 8 = 350ci V8.The seller had told me it was a 5 speed car so I knew it would either be an F=TPI 305ci or a H= 4bbl 305ci because there were no factory 350 tpi cars with a 5 speed. Now my car was repainted and all the badges had been removed and the RPO sticker had also been removed. So just looking at the car and checking the VIN it was at least a Z28 since the LT/RS/base didn't come with a V8/5 speed combo. Also once i looked under the rear of the car I saw that it had the G92 option ( Borg Warner 3.42 performance axle) which was only available on the the IROC with the 305tpi/5 speed cars.
After all of this research I knew that the seller was correct in telling me that the car was an '87 Iroc so I bought it.
So do your homework and ask questions. Look to see if the rpo sticker is there and that the vin on it matches the vin on the dash. If it does then take a pic of it so you can decode it later.
Good luck and I hope this helps!

Re: Need Purchasing Help
So i called the guy earlier today and he told me that it was a Z28 with a 350 cubic inch motor. Considering after I did some research, i noticed that an 86 Z28 did not have the 350 motor in it so I made the conclusion that it was engine swapped.
Now all that's left is to finish checking out the car to be sure.
Thanks a lot for the help!

Re: Need Purchasing Help
If it has the 'camaro' badge on the dash, it's likely a 82-87 Sport Coupe. Z28/IROC/RS would have that badge in its place.
