Oh yea, anyone know a good place in calgary, that will rebuild a 350 for me? I dont know tooo much about motors.. notice the purplish color on the hood of my car? anyone ever have that happen to them? it was an expensive paint job, but sat outside for like 4 years.. if I lick my finger and rub, it goes back to being green.. but green ends up on my finger. very strange, seems to me the clearcoat is gone. hehe im ramblin, later peeps.

I had my 350 machined by rod @ D&W. I put it together myself, good learning experience, ya really learn how it works that way.
I have ~$3600 into the motor now.

I'm doing a full restoration on my '82 Trans-AM. I'm done all but appearance stuff, new motor, rebuilt rear end, all new suspension, stereo (almost done) etc etc.
Just desperately needs a paint job, and some interior refreshing

What quadrant ya in? lemme guess, SE? I'm in the NW, Dalhousie area.

Nice car, looks like a bit project ahead of ya.... Any specific plans on it yet? Timeline to finish it?

oh yea, Curtis, hows your camaro running now? I'm mostly done dialing in my carb, it idles well, no bogs etc. But, it seems like it should be much faster then it is, but I have nothing to compare it to..... Wanna race?

I've been there a couple of times. But that place is a ****ing ****show for cops. Terrible. If you go farther south, near race city, there are more races, and the cops are fewer. But I dont do that **** anymore.

Hey guys, who's still alive?

Whatever happened to the guy who wanted to chat about cars?

hmm, so no matter what I did with my carb, car kept going slower...?
Re-lash the valves.... And that's about when I find 4 not moving... Stellar.

Luckily, 1 year warantee on the cam. So I ripped it out last night. 4 lobes GONE. 2 on one cylinder. So I was running on 5 cylinders.. Yea, that'll explain it.

New compxe268 today, putting it in on monday/tuesday.

Curtis, i'm still gonna race you this summer, I need something to stack up against

Ryan, you gonna put in a cam in your car yet? Or are you enjoying your summer with your girl too much

Ummmm.... *cough* Probably not. I R no longer putting money into it. Though I did land a job at a shop and the labor rate on crap is free...

... Holy ****, I forgot the labor is free. Dude, I should buy the cam and get THEM to do it! And I get COST for EVERY part. Hmmmm.....

Well anyhow, I am probably going to end up getting rid of it this summer. My parents gave me the 'it's not reliable/practical/safe/anything' talk. They told me they want to give it to my brother because it would be fine for him to drive it the 7 km to school every day. But it's ok because I am getting tired of that thing anyway. And to make up for my loss, they are offering to help me buy one of these.

ahaha, you toasted your camaro!

oh well a sweet bike... Aren't you like 18? How the hell can you afford that on your camaro, and a new bike??? Oh, cocaine sales are up I see?

what broke on the motor anyway? bottom end stuff? is that going to be new?

yea, I guess if you need reliable transportation a 3rd gen isn't it... I'm gonna have to get myself another oldsmobile to get to work sorta thing, in the future.... When I re-tear down my car for more upgrades...

I think my cam swap is being delayed, seeing as how my cam bearings might be toast...

i just turned 19 a while back......

haha yea the coke sales are up :P nah ive got a pretty good job for my age, but its still killer to pay for the bike, car, bike insurance, and car insurance. bikes insurance was 1800 up front, not monthly, so that set me back a bit

but yeah, i bent the crank, threw a rod and dropped a valve.....lol

so i picked up a used 350 and im just using it for the crank, pistons and block, with new rings and bearings that is.... and i got port and polished 350 heads so hopefully that will give it some more ooommpff.

its gonna be hard to switch back to the car though haha, like, i love this bike, but i cant sell the car, sure the bike can pick up ladies, and looks really good, but i can only carry one extra person, and it is so different riding with a passenger, i almost dumped the bike the first time i took a chick for a rip. scary.....haha....so theres a plus side for the car....and music, cant drive without it. its crazy though, our cars redline at like....what 4500....my bike redlines at 16500.....lol....its nuts.....0-180 MPH in 12 seconds

so what kinda cam are you gonna get?

i've got the xe268. Replacing my lunati 60103.
but my cam bearings are toast, so i'm gonna have to re-rebuild the motor now... Very quickly.

What stock 350 heads do you have that are ported and polished? Some (most) are kinda garbage...

amen to that. But most 350 heads that you can find realistically suck *****. Even ported, or gasket matched. Can't get 'em to flow much.

That's why I used the 305 heads, 416 castings. Just watch your compression ratio with that shortblock, and the 350 heads. Might want to ask on the general engine forum if you want some advice on your 350 build that is, sounds like you're well underway....

I'm still hoping for a race this summer, get turning those wrenches!

if you decide to part it i'll pick that sucker clean!....
Looks like a sweet car, that's my favorite color there too...

that looks nasty, this the type of repairs you'd feel comfortable doing yourself?
If your insurance company is willing to buy you out, ie pay the blue book value of the car, rather then repairing it, go for that, then buy it back for pocket change, then replace the mechanical parts yourself, and see about body work after that...
I think the insurance co. will pay for the repair appraisals at least.

what did you insure it for? I changed the insurable value of my car from the $1200 I paid for it, to $6000, because of all the motor work. If my car disappears I want a BIG paycheck!

Wow, I missed a lot.
Yes that was a Skyline. I am thinking of either buying one of those, or a Mitsu GTO (300 hp to 4 wheels - stock. ) or a 3 series (but only to keep for a year or so. The t/a is running on 7 cylinders right now. I think it's the ancient plug wires.

Anyhow, tomorrow (5th) is my wedding..... I have to go...... and.... sleep.

Yeah I'll let you know if I part it out Sonix, still undecided if I get it repaired or not....

I have an apprasial from '98 for $8000 and only has 36,000km since that and $3000 in upgrades since 2002 (have all reciepts) so we'll see what I get...

The motor if anybody is interested, is the original 305 bored .030 over, Stock 8:5 to 1 pistons, Comp 256 cam, Performer intake, 570 Holley, flowtech headers that were machined not to leak and still havent, all new valve train (valves, springs etc.), 416 heads with a mild porting, all these extras have no more than 2500km on them and the motor was rebearinged and machined about 25,000 ago, I also have a full 2.5" dynomax mandrel bent exhaust. If somebody wants to throw an offer out there I'm listening

Whoo, that's tough luck. She's a beauty.

Uh, in other news... I, Uh, sold that T/A. To my little brother. May god help him keep it out of the ditch.

..And I bought, uh, (I am almost embarassed to say this) a 93 Nissan 240sx coupe. It's a nice little car. I got it for a very fair price all things considered.

More trunk room for groceries, cheaper on gas, better every-day handling, power everything (including sunroof) fresh paint (due to minor rust + rock chips), manual transmission (I hated the Trans Am's auto with a passion), heads up display, and.... no torque!

Oh well. I'll make her fun. And I will still be around here. Because I get to 'borrow'the Trans Am whenever I am home, and I figure I've got enough knowledge on here to be worth keeping around, eh?

ahahahah!!!! R*cer!!!!

My old girlfriend had a stanza with that gay little 2.4L 3 valve motor... Foot to the floor I couldn't pass some housewife in a truck just getting up to speed, lame! I could row faster than that pos!
oh well, your brother going to do anything with the car, or just drive it and not know anything about it? I mean, soon to be a fellow TGO'er?

hmm, anyway, i'm basically done my motor re-rebuild, and i'm going to try to shoe horn it into the bay tonight or tommorow, kinda hard by myself

Meh, I dunno if I would say *****. I mean, I DID get a RWD... And this is the 4 valve motor and it only weighs 2,770 lbs. It goes ok for stock. I'm going to mod it out slowly over the next while, as cash allows. I just bought a new clutch, set of rear brakes and all 4 tires for it, soo.. Yeah.

Just today, coming home from work, I got her sideways in a big way, even with the slippy clutch. I think I can have some fun with this car.

As for my brother, he wants to learn about it and once he knows it about as well as I do, he wants to continue where I left off. So I bet we'll see him around here a fair bit.

edit: BTW, with my parts discount,

Metallic rear pads + 2 rear rotors + 300zx TT fuel filter + wiper blades + spark plugs + dual friction clutch + 4 lightly used 205/55ZR15 89w tires = $338.00 = not bad at all.

haha, you were the glue man....
you still in calgary, or back in vanc?

Hey, Curtis, you get the beast back on the road or what?

I've got a high RPM stutter that i'm trying to tune out... Might be gone now though... Feels pretty strong at higher RPMs.... woot!

So who's gonna race me? hmm?

Yeah, I'm in vancouver now. It's so hard to be driving a stock car again. I know there's no way I'm gonna be able to resist modding it for another 8 months..

haha, yea, kinda hard without... hmm, ya know, money?

Then again, mods for that car must be stupidly expensive...?

Heh, mods are decently priced for the 240. I plan to swap the 2l turbo from Japan and get myself about 300rwhp when I can afford it.

My bro is driving the t/a, yes. but he wont register on here yet. I have been badgering him. And now my mom hates me for installing that cutout. :P

haha, that cutout rocked the kazbah...
There was some guy here in calgary (on the forum) asking about installing a cutout... I told him to ask you...

I dunno man, addons seem wayyyy more expensive for imports...
300RWHP with a turbo'd 2.0L 4 banger? I'd have to see it to believe it... (that would be hellaciously fast in a 2600lb car though...)

ha, I'm sure your brother will register when he finds a problem that he needs help fixing, or comes into some money for mods

Heh, yeah, I met him. Sold him one of my dashpads.

BTW I still have the bird one and my offer to you still stands.

As for a 2.0l turbo, oh, yeah, you can make 300 with them. All forged internals. Boost, intake, exhaust, turbo, fuel pump, etc. Well when it's done I will show it to you and you will see it and then at the finish line you'll believe it. :P

By the time you've got that finished, i'll have my car tuned significantly better than it is now, and I think it'll be pretty damn close...
heck, by the time you're done I might have finished a twin turbo 383... I think i'm financially ahead of you, since I grad in april

hmm, I might end up taking that dashpad off your hands. I do need one, and I know they're only going to get harder to find with time...
Is it in calgary now?

Hm, I grad in May. It'll be close. Though just the stock SR motor is about 2 grand and it has 203 hp. Then figure in installation since I cant do it myself (nowhere to do it) and some bolt ons right away.. hmm...

Yeah, it's in Calgary right now. Maybe we can arrange the same thing as before with the headers. Just be sure my dad gives you the one for the Bird, not the one for the Camaro right beside it. :P

Boy, i'd hope he knows the difference, I sure as heck don't.

haha, give your brother some motivation to mod his car, seeing mine... Actually, seeing mine is more of a reason to wash and wax your car regularly... hahaha..
How about a PM with your address again, and the price on that, in case i've forgotten..? I'm pretty swamped this week with assignments and whatnot, maybe later in the week I could pick it up.
Sound good?

hmm, $2000 then install, say $3000 when the smoke clears, for 200HP... Not really comparable, but in 3rd gen world, 350HP for $3000 is about right. Are you planning to stay in vancouver after may, or elsewhere?
It sounds like no plans for a big garage full of tools eh? tsk tsk, every mechanical engineer needs that..

Well I'm figuring 4k will get me about 300hp plus all the little things that go with it, if I do as much as I can on my own. Basically everything but the actual swap. Plus remember the weight. And I want to autocross this sucker, so suspension mods too. But hey, I like this car.

We have to stay in the apartment we're in for a while. It's just too damn nice. But when we can move into a house with a garage I will be a very, very happy person. Probably planning to stay in Vancouver though.

oh, pm sent.

Hey everybody, Im sure you all remember the pics of my T-boned 85 Camaro, we'll Ive unfortunatley decided to part it out and not repair it.....so.......if any body is looking for anything off of a well maintained 85 camaro I may have it...
heres whats not available:

Interior Rear Seats
Rims
Steering wheel
Carb
GTO covers
Armrests
This is it so far....

Motor is a 20,000k used 305 with 416 heads (ported), stock 8.5:1 pistons, 256 Comp Cam, Edelbrock intake Port matched, no carb, and "fixed" flowtech headers...
Other than that the car has no power options (except mirrors), T-tops plus an extra drivers side top, (still have the leather storage bag in excellent shape), Dash pad is cracked so you dont want it and the Rear axle and diff were toasted in the accident. Also has dual cooling fans from an 87 iroc although one of the mounts is broken (still functions 100%).
But if theres something your looking for or just want to have a look PM me and we can arrange something... thanks for taking the time to read, hopefully I can help somebody out, If you want pictures I attached some in a previous reply on this thread.

Hey, hey

I'm Evan, 305q_ta86 (Ryan's) Brother.
He finally got me to get up and come register here :P
Sorry it took so long, but I'm here and ready to talk some car.

I would like to clear some things up that my brother might have.. told you:
-I'm not as bad of a driver as he makes me out to be
-I in fact do not drive to school at 7 km/h
-And finally, yes, I am better at racing then he is

HAHA **** guys.... i havent been on here in ages.... a shitload has happened since then... since the camaro blew up i have owned a few vehicles since then

Still got the bike
bought a 84 s 10... biggest waste of time.. sold it... haha
then bought a 92 jetta for winter... ran it into the ground then sold it
then i got a 94 jeep grand cherokee... and im trying to sell it

why am i selling the jeep.... cause i have some thing back on the road

yup, the camaro is back up and running. I bought yet another 350 that i got to test drive first, and threw it in with my new intake and carb. The other engine is sitting in my garage waiting to be built up... but lack of funds is holding me back. Cause since then i have moved out of my parents house, and i now live in calgary with a few roomates. haha so much has happened since then. I cant wait till bike season again and if the weather is like this on the weekend i think im gonna take it out for a rip.. haha. but yeah, one of these days i will post a bunch of pictures throughout my engine swap and yea.... i missed that thing... i love driving it again... but i have an intake gasket leak

and maverick..... how much do you want for the rims off your car. If your not asking to much I will buy em. If not im just gonna go ahead and get weld pro stars

but yeah... i guess iwill check up on here more often... just so you guys dont think im a skid mark on the road from driving my bike... haha

talk to you guys later

Whoa, no emails to say this thread was updated...

Geez Curtis you move fast. Got any specs on that 350 you've dropped in? Holy cow you go through vehicles fast, how can you afford to do that? (oh right, you're a crack dealer, my bad). I'm itching to race your Camaro none-the-less. Actually, I did kinda think you wiped yourself off the map with your bike, good to hear you're still alive.

Evan! Welcome to the club, how's the bird running? Man I loved the exhaust note that car had, it SURE didn't sound like a 305. I'm gonna have to get a cutout for mine sometime haha, yea right, after 2 weeks of running open headers, I really don't think i'd be able to take it...
hey, wait a sec, I don't remember racing Ryan before... I think one of our cars wasn't working well each time we met up so we never got to. Mwahaha, Evan, you man enough to race that beast against me then? Once I get a job and get my car insured that is... Most likely tail end of April, probably about when we get the full thaw...

Dude I'm so in! Once... I... get a job as well and can fix up some things on the TA. She's been running just fine, but alas, winter has made her little home made carburetor cry when it hits 10 below. So still some things to look forward to in the summer with the whole throwing money at it.

Home made carb? haha. I never could get the choke quite right... Maybe we should go to The Junkyard next time I'm back and see if we can pull another qjet from a buick or something.. Or maybe we'll get lucky and find a brand new demon 650 under one of those hoods..

Jay, if I have snail power next time I have the s13 in town, I'll give ya a run for your money.. If I'm still NA... You have to race in reverse. LOL

S13? Would that be the Nissan? heheh, that ought to be fun.

Home made carb? What the heck did you do to that poor Q-jet? Probably just needs some tweaking for winter, we get such a DRASTIC change from july stampede weather to january that we really do need to adjust the choke in the winter.

I remember hearing something about adjusting it in the spring/fall but I was far too lazy to get it done. Pulling one from the junkyard sounds good cause I don't want to spend any more money until I get the engine rebuilt.
