Can someone help with these factory wire colors?
Can someone help with these factory wire colors?
The original radio in my 89 Firebird was not there when I purchased the car. Just a massive stub of clipped wires. peeling the tape back revealed about 14 wires. There seems to be 4 pair of joined wires. I'm assuming those are for each speaker? Other are as follows; orange w/black stripe...yellow.... pink....black w/blue stripe.....brown...... green....Also there is some kind of mutiple pin connector(grey) laying up in there. Can anyone whose been this route before share with me what your knowledge is of these wires. I found a 90 firebird factory tapedeck.. Can i get some sort of harness to plug into this deck then splice into these wires?. Please reply, Thanks
well, i dont have the colors, but i typed out a way on my webpage to find out which ones they are by using a 12v tester light and all .. here...

Thanks Deadtrend, Well I should have updated this last night. I got out my tester and did some checking and here's what I've come up with so far. ORANGE is hot constant on its own(possibly factory radio's clock???) YELLOW is hot with key only( radio on possibly??). BROWN is hot with dash light on. GREEN shows 10V(unsure what that's for). PINK does nothing except shows continuity with chassis ground. and of course black is ground. Anyone knows what's up with the pink or green 10v wire.
First off. is there wires attached to your so called "grey pin connector) or was it laying in there. If there were no wires into it then i'm pretty sure those wires once went into the pin connector. If you have a local micky shore, or best buy or circuitcity, and place that does installs they could help u find out what those colors are. I believe yellow to be asseccory, - radio on with key and green 10v -for power anntenna I've found from over the years that every dang car has a power antenna line even if never equiped, even if it isn't an option, must be one of those assembly line universail things,
But if that pin connector did have the wires into it, ouch that sucks. All those wires come into the pin, then that pin connects to teh stock radio. When u upgrade to let's say and after market radio they hook on a 'car to universial' (car end changed from eery single car to car) Now that have a line from the wires to a universal. Then they click on a 'universal to radio' (radio end changin from radio to radio) I just did it on my suburban. 5 minute install
